Arizona Declares Sacred Heart a Historic Place
On November 18th, the Historic Sites Review Committee of the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office placed Sacred Heart Church on the State Register of Historic Places and nominated Sacred Heart Church to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places for its importance in ethnic heritage, social history, and community planning and development.
As of now, Sacred Heart Church has been declared historic by the City of Phoenix and the State of Arizona. The nomination will be forwarded to Washington, D.C. and we should know by Easter if Sacred Heart Church will be declared a National Historic Place.
It is at least good to know that all of the generations associated with Sacred Heart Church are receiving the respect they so richly deserve. The community’s refusal to allow the old Sacred Heart Church to be demolished is what is making this all possible.
A more complete report will be given at the annual Christmas Day Mass.
Sincerely,
Abe Arvizu, Jr., Chair
Braun-Sacred Heart Center
